When you decide to get into blogging, the first thing you contemplate is 'what camera do I buy?'
This can be very confusing as there are so many different specifications when it comes to cameras that even I, as a current blogger, am still trying to figure out.
But I will admit, I will probably never be so tech savvy as some of the individuals I came across at the photography masterclass having discussions over a camera lens! So here is a post about my experience at the Nikon Runway Photography Masterclass and also a suggestion of cameras for those who also are getting into blogging and finding it hard to choose a decent camera.
At the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney, I attended the Nikon Runway Photography Masterclass to have a better understanding on photography in general and obviously runway/fashion photography. If you own a Nikon camera, you may find this even more pertinent than I did- I actually own a Sony Cyber-shot (Model: DSCW830DB)!
The main pointers I picked up from the runway photography masterclass are:
- Take your camera off auto and switch to manual
- Shoot in ISO mode
- NEVER use flash
- Place your camera's focus on either the models face or chest area.
Now for the fun part.... Some cameras to check out for yourself!
THE COMPACT:
Cannon PowerShot G7X $779 AUD
This camera is very popular with bloggers and is also easy to handle. With 20.2 MP and Full HD Movie Mode of 1080 - this compact camera can also be handled in manual mode.
Sony Digital E-mount Alpha 5100L $899 AUD
Like the G7x its compact and still able to operate with great features. It has 24.3 MP and cool features like soft skin effect and a selfie 180 flip monitor with Full HD Movie of 1080.
THE SLIGHTLY WEIGHTY:
Cannon EOS 700D DSLR $669 AUD
Also labelled as the 'entry level' DSLR. Though it is a little lower in mega-pixels of 18 MP but has Full HD Movie of 1080 with great shutter speed of capturing up to 5 frames per second.
Panasonic Lumix GH4 $1,799 AUD
Great for vlogging with 4K2K video but it only has 16.05 MP. I will admit this is the priciest on my list but for those who love Wayne Goss and watching his YouTube tutorials will all say his vlogs are in amazing HD quality! I would recommend this to anyone who want to just vlog and need to invest in something solid.
I know you are probably thinking why the options and not just a 'buy this one' so it is sweet and simple. I bought myself a simple Sony because of my personal preference of a good compact camera with HD video that was all automatic so I did not have to fumble with manual settings.
Something you’ll want to consider before you settle on a camera model is what you’re trying to achieve with your camera.
Personally, as a makeup artist - I believe a camera of 20 and above in mega-pixels is essential in order to get good photos of your work.
Also, as I said above, I am just not so tech savvy so I made sure my camera records in high-definition (HD). Look out for a camera with 720 HD or more. If you are looking to focus more on vlogging, do not fall for the 'HD movie' label as you are looking for 'full HD' of 1080.
Always pick the brains of the sale clerks - that is what they are there for!
For people who want to get really technical then you need to consider the ISO, aperture and shutter speed in your camera features!
Xx
