When I decided to do my makeup diploma I had
researched on A LOT of different products and A LOT of different views on
makeup applications and makeup trends.
Within 'Block 1', which is the first semester of
my Diploma, the units we went through had covered the fundamental basics.
Our first two weeks consisted of understanding colours and the undertones within different skin types and how to prep skin for foundation and also the removal of makeup. The weeks after delved into the different types of makeup techniques for beauty related makeup from basic day and night wear to bridal.
In ‘block 1’ you build up your skills to showcase in your final
assessment of ‘Block 1’ which is the 'Catwalk Show'. 'Block 1' also touches upon the fundamental
basics in hair styling techniques that you as an artist build upon further.
WHAT I LEARNT
What I learnt from TACB in my first semester
is that you can watch as many YouTube videos as you want but they will cover
what works for them while at TACB you will learn how to tweak everything you do
to different face shapes, skin tones and skin types.
During class we partner up with a fellow student
and use the techniques we have learnt and apply them to a different eye shape,
face shape and skin type which really helps with getting used to understanding
the basics and actually applying theory to practice.
The practical assessments will obviously come
with theory and that means covering paper work on how you will go about
creating your looks, the different scenarios that you may come across when
handling clients and also WHS related aspects.

There is A LOT of theory that you go through, as you can see with all the workbooks, these may be a little repetitive and boring.... I am not going to lie! But, our teachers go through the theory as a class before you start to get into practicing for the practicals. The theory does help in the long run because the questions given make you think about what you want to achieve with this Diploma and how to go about it.
SOME EXAMPLES:
'Music Video' Assessment
'Hybrid' Assessment & Cleopatra Makeup
Period 'French roll' Assessment
If there are any other questions in relation to 'Block 1' or the course over all just send them through =)
